MISMANAGEMENT

A little insight on Mismanagement
Have you ever found yourself in a dilemma that resulted from an action or group of actions that invariably escalated to a negative (or series of negative) events that could be traced to being your fault?

Yes, it’s true that we as individuals are sometimes held responsible for some situational tragedy. Example, failure in school, losing a client, being blamed for inefficiency in an organization. And in the midst or at the end of all the terrible situations, we tend to ask ourselves where we went wrong. Like how??

How could such a thing happen like that?

I’d tell you how.

Mismanagement:

Mismanagement? This is the process/act of an irresponsible, incompetent, ineptly or even dishonest management. Whoaaa!!! Now, that’s extreme. Yeah, it’s from the dictionary.

And truly I can relate to the authenticity of the above sentence, because, notwithstanding the iota or vastness of an action, once it’s slightly not within the supposed ranges of limitation for that action, it becomes mismanagement. What do I mean?

You earn a certain amount of income monthly, and in two days after receiving it everything is finished, though there might be excusable reasons why it is finished, but still it finished under your supervision. Or, you were not able to accomplish much during a day or week due to your busy schedules, it’s not the fault of any other person—even those who intrude into your personal activities to get your attention.

Kinds of mismanagement

Mismanagement can be of three kinds:

  • Time mismanagement

  • Material resources

  • Relationship mismanagement

The first two listed above are/can be personal, whilst the last one is interpersonal (between two or more people).

Time Mismanagement:

This occurs when an individual doesn’t wistfully use their time—in a/an second/hour/day/week/month/year—to provide notable and profitable results.

Material Mismanagement:

This occurs when an individual or group of individuals do not make proper use of their material resources (e.g money, clothing, mobile data, airtime or call card, cars and all other resources).

Relationship Management:
I as a person can relate to mismanaging some relationships. This is simply when one or more persons do not handle their relationships wisely—with care, considering other people’s feelings and situations—and then dishonoring promises and vows made, defamation of others, creating drama and unnecessary problems for each other other others.

What are the causes of mismanagement?

We will list a few things that cause mismanagement.
  1. no clear vision of the purpose(s) of a task, relationship, time etc.
  2. no clear understanding of expected obligations.
  3. ignorance of do’s and don’t’s.
  4. wrong relationships/associations.
  5. poor planning.
  6. A wrong mindset.

Effects of mismanagement.

Mismanagement leads to a lot of terrible and unwanted situations. I will just list a few for you to be aware of;
  • Shame and irrelevant humiliation
  • Dependency on the t&c of others: This occurs with material mismanagement, when you use your resources dishonorably room they are exhausted and someone else is helping you, whatever terms they call, even though unfavorable to you, has to happen.
  • Unproductiveness
  • Desperation
  • Anxiety,
  • Mistakes.
  • Loss of integrity
  • Inefficiency
  • Possible damage to your relationship(s)

Now, what are the solutions to mismanagement?

  1. Proper, detailed and consistent planning of time, resources, and expectations in a relationship.
  2. Well understood purpose of time, resources and relationships.
  3. A productive association to change the environment of what you feed on.
  4. Honesty with self and others.
  5. Boundaries and rules—for both personal and interpersonal relationships.

Now friends, if you were able to put to practice these few steps listed above—to your life, resources and relationships—or decided to stop being unproductive and become very very effective towards success.
